"Breakfast with my gorgeous friend Henrik. I am staying in his apartment, which is pretty much furnished as a disco. He's a fashion photographer with an intravenous Seventies style.
Arrive at the Hotel Vendome, where we have a suite to show the autumn/winter 2009-10 SYKES collection together with Justin's Giunter's Subversive jewellery. His collection is called Hard Twines ...we're ready for them!
We are working with the wonderful Joy Yaffe. She's busying around in her OCD fashion, making the finishing touches to the suite and I'm still rearranging rails to perfect the Feng Shui, when the doorbell chimes. It's Bloomingdales department store. They're early and Joy kicks into bouncer mode refusing entry and ushering them down to the bar for a coffee. We take a few more minutes to make sure everything is immaculate and back they come.
Maybe not hard twines - first sales, phew!
The Americans depart and a key critical eye from a Milan buying office comes and endorses the collection. She's putting both of us on the 'must-see' list for her clients.
Door goes again. London and Russia calling. Two department stores together! They've just been to see the Balenciaga show. They're both very positive and make compliments, but Russia doesn't buy.
Russia is BACK with reinforcements of three more buyers in uber cool, black, layered attire. They write an order!
Pop out to Colette for a quick peek at the display and pick up some amazing fig of Sicily candles for the suite. We watch fashionistas struggling up and down the stairs in towering platforms and add further assault to the course, having paused mid-stairs to talk to a Day-Glo, bangle clad, buyer we bump into.
We stop at Castiglione café on Rue St. Honore for a mint tea and some sustenance.
Call from the girls back at Hotel. Matches boutique are early so we whiz back. Mark is my favourite buyer. He chooses all the best pieces and we chat about what he's seen this season.
Two stylists from Vienna, Odo and Yoan drop by. We take them through the collection, which they love and they tell us about their night out.
Never a dull moment with these two.
Joy's friend Vanessa, from Conde Nast International comes to visit.
Such a lovely woman. We have tea and biscuits and a long talk.
Just as we're packing up, a shop from Geneva arrives. She is staying in the hotel and has discovered us by chance. She orders a selection of the silks.
Dinner with my shoe designer friend David Wyatt and his business partner Paula. Lots of red wine.
Drinks and dancing at Cha Cha's. We meet Vanessa, my best friend and stylist, and her boyfriend, Nick, a talented painter, who's somehow been roped into DJing for the night.
Henrik and I ride home on the chopper (freeezing!) and pass out under his disco ball. Exhausted!" - Joanna Sykes
